In 1939 Moshe joined the movement, graduated the Jewish high school in Debrecen and in 1943 he moved to Budapest. Upon the German occupation of Hungary on 19.3.1944, Moshe was enlisted in a forced labor unit. In July he escaped thanks to forged documents provided by the movement and arrived at the Jewish community house in Budapest. In October Moshe stayed in a bunker in Zugló, a suburb of Budapest, and underwent weapons training. The bunker was discovered and the occupants, among them Moshe Katz, were caught by Arrow Cross men. He was taken to the Gestapo center in Buda but released thanks to Protection Documents of the Swiss legation. Moshe arrived at the “Glass House” on Vadász Street and later at the branch of the Swiss consulate on Wekerle Street. He worked in the food storeroom from which food was delivered to the ghetto and children’s houses under the auspices of the Zionist youth movements.
In 1946 Moshe made aliya. He stayed at Mivtahim and Kibbutz Tze’elim. Later he settled down in Petah-Tikva.
